Adelaide Botanic Garden Weddings

Getting married at the Botanic Garden!?

What I’ve learned The Botanic Garden is the best of both worlds, you get a proper garden ceremony without leaving the city, so your guests aren’t driving an hour into the Hills and you’re only minutes from whatever reception venue you’ve picked.

Most of my Botanic Garden couples have had the ceremony here and then moved to a reception close by, the SA Museum, the Royal Adelaide Golf Club, KHOU Bar and Fogolar Furlan. Christiana and Isaac did it the other way around, a Greek Orthodox ceremony in Thebarton and then the marquee in the garden for the reception.

The portrait options are endless. Between the Palm House, the Cycads and the rose garden we can get completely different looks in the time it takes your guests to get to drinks, and North Terrace and the uni are right next door if you want a bit of city in there too.

Fun facts

  • I’ve filmed five weddings with a ceremony or reception at the Adelaide Botanic Garden.

  • Three of those five were in March, with the other two in October and November, so spring and autumn are the sweet spot here.

  • I’ve worked alongside photographers Scott Goh, Monica Cugnier, Belinda Monck and Jack Small at the Botanic Garden.

  • Ceremony spots include The Summerhouse, the Palm House Lawn, the Cycad Collection, Araucaria Avenue, North Lodge Lawn, the Economic Garden and the International Rose Garden.

  • The Rose Garden Pavilion is a 15 x 30 metre marquee overlooking the International Rose Garden, set up for the ceremony, the reception or both.

  • Bookings are run by Blanco Weddings, not the garden itself.

  • The garden has been on North Terrace since the 1850s, right in the Adelaide CBD.

Sunset at the Botanic Garden

Sunset is the bit couples forget to plan for. Here’s when the light goes, so you can build your run sheet around it.

  • October - 7:29pm, golden hour from 6:45pm

  • November - 7:58pm, golden hour from 7:15pm

  • December - 8:24pm, golden hour from 7:40pm

  • January - 8:31pm, golden hour from 7:45pm

  • February - 8:09pm, golden hour from 7:25pm

  • March - 7:34pm, golden hour from 6:50pm

  • April - 7:07pm before daylight saving ends, 5:58pm the weekend after

  • May - 5:20pm, golden hour from 4:35pm

  • June - 5:10pm, golden hour from 4:25pm

  • July - 5:21pm, golden hour from 4:35pm

  • August - 5:43pm, golden hour from 5:00pm

  • September - 6:06pm, golden hour from 5:20pm

A lot of Botanic Garden ceremonies are early afternoon so everyone can get across to the reception, which leaves a nice gap for portraits in the garden and the city in between. In March, sunset is around 7:30pm, so if your reception is in the Rose Garden marquee, a 15 minute break between courses gets you last light in the garden without leaving the party. In winter it’s closer to 5:10pm, so do the garden portraits straight after the ceremony.

Documentary wedding videographer, Adelaide.

I'm a wedding videographer based in Gawler. I've been doing this for 8 years now and have filmed over 200 weddings across Adelaide, the Barossa, the Hills and McLaren Vale.

When you book 22 Wedding Films, you get me. I'm the one who replies to your email, the one who turns up on the morning, and the one who finishes your film. No handing you off to someone you've never met.

I've been filming and documenting people since I was 15. I went full time about 8 years ago and I still get a kick out of it. Getting to film real people on one of the biggest days of their life is the best part of this job.
