Getting married at Sunnybrae!?
What I’ve learned Sunnybrae has solved the problem that catches out every other big venue, which is what happens when the weather turns. Three reception spaces, all of them properly heated and cooled, three separate ceremony spots, and eight acres of established garden to walk out into the second the sun comes back. That’s why almost every wedding I’ve filmed here has been outside the summer window and not one of them has been compromised by it.
The other thing is the drive, or the lack of one. Twelve minutes from the city means your guests turn up relaxed, your bridal party isn’t in a bus for thirty minutes between locations, and if you want city portraits before the reception it’s actually realistic.
The heritage farm buildings are the secret weapon for portraits, old bluestone against a bridal party in black tie is a look you can’t buy in a newer venue.

Sunnybrae is one of my most filmed venues, sitting up there with Glen Ewin Estate and just behind Longview and Howard vineyard.
Every Sunnybrae wedding I’ve filmed or have booked falls between March and September. Not a single summer one, which is the exact opposite of every Hills venue on my list.
There are three reception spaces - The Coach House seats 200, Ìkos seats 140, and The Marquee goes all the way to 310 on rounds or 340 on trestles.
Three ceremony spots to match - The Landing pairs with The Coach House, The Rose Garden with The Marquee, and The Walk with Ìkos.
The Marquee was the first free-standing marquee venue in South Australia, with a herringbone paved floor and full heating and cooling.

Sunset is the bit couples forget to plan for. Here’s when the light goes so you can build your
run sheet around it.
October - 7:29pm, golden hour from 6:45pm
November - 7:58pm, golden hour from 7:10pm
December - 8:24pm, golden hour from 7:40pm
January - 8:31pm, golden hour from 7:45pm
February - 8:09pm, golden hour from 7:25pm
March - 7:34pm, golden hour from 6:50pm
April - 7:08pm before daylight saving ends, 5:58pm the weekend after
May - 5:21pm, golden hour from 4:35pm
June - 5:10pm, golden hour from 4:25pm
July - 5:22pm, golden hour from 4:35pm
August - 5:44pm, golden hour from 5:00pm
September - 6:06pm, golden hour from 5:20pm
This is the one that surprises people. A June ceremony at 3pm means golden hour starts at 4:25pm,
so your sunset photos are happening before your guests have finished canapés, not halfway through
the mains. Get the timing right and a winter wedding here is easier to shoot than a summer one,
because everything happens in daylight and the reception rooms are warm. In October through
February it flips the other way and we’d be stepping out around 7:30pm, so build a 15 minute
break into the run sheet between courses.
